Mobile phone capabilities in 2012

Imagine leaving your house and locking the front door digitally with your smartphone, and then getting on a bus and swiping your mobile over a ‘reader’ to pay for the fare. You get to work and again swipe your mobile to enter the building. Lunch is bought with a swipe of the mobile and if you need to book concert tickets you can do it quickly and simply through your mobile phone. Even your passport, driver’s licence and Medicare details could be carried around in your mobile phone.

On Facebook, Firesheep and Security

Logging into Wi-Fi networks at places like cafes, McDonalds and hotels just became even more dangerous. A new software program for the Firefox web browser called Firesheep gives even amateur hackers the ability to capture a user’s Facebook, Flickr and Twitter login information over Wi-Fi networks.

I’ve tried it. It’s really easy.

Lorraine uses pedal power to fight MS

As Brighton's 'pocket rocket' I have been training hard to raise money for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I will be participating in next week's 'Sydney to 'Gong' bike ride. At a distance of 90ks and hindered by very short legs, I won't find it easy.

MMPCU congratulates Greg Tarry

We have been been working closely with Maritime Mining Power Credit Union over a number of months to support its merger with two credit unions: Reliance Credit Union and Gosford Credit Union.

The challenge has been how to support these three distinct brands (and three separate online marketing plans) without incurring three times the cost for MMPCU.

Connecting with a new generation

Sydney-based Encompass Credit Union faces an issue common to most mutual financial institutions: its member base is middle aged – and getting older.

While a new generation is coming through, engaging with them is a challenge. Young Australians are amongst the first demographic to embrace social media and use a new range of channels to communicate.
